Change-of-Address Checklist for NZ Movers
Updating your address is one of the easiest things to forget in the chaos of moving — and missed mail can mean missed bills, fines, or important letters. Work through this checklist a couple of weeks before you move so everything follows you to your new place.
Utilities & home services
- Power and gas provider (arrange final reading and new connection)
- Internet and phone provider
- Water (if separately billed)
- Subscriptions (streaming, meal kits, gym, deliveries)
Government & official
- Inland Revenue (IRD)
- Electoral roll (vote.nz)
- NZTA / Waka Kotahi — driver licence and vehicle registration
- Your GP, dentist and any specialists
- Your child's school or childcare
Money & insurance
- Bank and credit card providers
- KiwiSaver provider
- Home contents, car, life and health insurers (your premium may change with location)
- Any loans or finance accounts
Work & everyday
- Your employer (for payroll and records)
- Online shopping accounts and saved delivery addresses
- Loyalty and club memberships
- Friends and family
Set up mail redirection: NZ Post offers a paid mail redirection service that forwards anything you've missed to your new address for a set period — a cheap safety net while you update everyone.
